Lip Blush Pre-Care

1. Hydrate Your Lips (starting 7 days before)

• Dry lips don’t hold pigment well.
• Drink plenty of water
• Apply a good lip balm frequently
• Use a thick layer of Aquaphor or hydrating lip balm before bed
• Goal: soft, smooth lips with no cracks or flakes. (If your lips are cracked or peeling, the procedure will not be done)

2. Gently Exfoliate (2–3 Days Before)

• Remove dead skin so pigment goes in evenly.
• Options: Use a soft toothbrush or sugar/honey lip scrub
• Lightly exfoliate once per day
• Stop exfoliating 24 hours before your appointment.

3. Avoid Lip Irritants

• For 48 hours before your appointment, avoid:
• Lip plumpers
• Retinol products near lips
• Strong chemical exfoliants
• Sunburn on lips
• Waxing around the lip area

Irritated skin can cause uneven pigment or excessive swelling.

**NO LIP FILLERS OR BOTOX 4 weeks before or after your appointment**

‼️4. Prevent Cold Sores (Very Important) ‼️

If you’ve ever had Herpes Simplex Virus Type 1, lip blush can trigger an outbreak. Even if you have never had a cold sore, you still may harbor the virus. 

• Recommend to take an antiviral medication (Valtrex, Zovirax, etc) starting 1–2 days before. (Ask your doctor if you’re prone to cold sores or concerned you may have HSV-1.)

5. Avoid Blood Thinners (24 Hours Before)

These can increase bleeding and reduce pigment retention. It's best to avoid the following:

• Alcohol
• Caffeine (day of appointment)
• Aspirin / ibuprofen
• Fish oil supplements
• Vitamin E

6. Come With Bare Lips

• On the day of your appointment you appointment, come with clean lips. You're welcome to bring your favorite lipstick or lip gloss colors with you or color inspiration but do not apply them to your lips.
