Permanent Brows are an excellent option for both women and men wishing to have more symmetrical brows, a more complimentary brow shape for their face, thicker brows, or brows that are more filled in. Other individuals may be wanting permanent brows that resemble real hair due to their natural brow hair thinning or lacking altogether due to age, chemotherapy treatments, thyroid disease, alopecia or other medical conditions.
Brow style is determined by both the client's personal preference as well as the type of natural brow they have, their natural facial shape, and bone structure.
There are two main styles of permanent brows:
Nano Hairstroke and Powder Brows.
Both styles are Cosmetic Tattoos, and are created with the use of a tattoo machine to implant pigment into the skin. Unlike traditional body art tattooing, Cosmetic Tattooing is a specialized area of tattoo artistry with a goal of implanting pigment at a more shallow depth into the skin, to provide a soft natural look that fades naturally over time. Below is a description of each, as well as information on techniques used, and examples of each style.
Nano Hairstroke, also called Digital Microblading, is a style of brow that mimics the look of real hair. Nano Hairstroke translates to “tiny hairstroke” and tiny individual hairs are carefully created to provide the look of an all-natural brow. Although Nano Hairstroke looks similar to Microblading, there's no cutting of the skin or risk of scarring.
Microblading (or simply “blading”) uses a tool to manually cut slices to implant pigment in the skin. It’s not recommended for clients who have oily skin, mature skin (over 40), combination skin, sun-damaged skin, sensitive skin, or very vascular skin, which is the majority of all people.
Nano Hairstroke, in comparison, uses a 1-point needle and a tattoo machine to poke the skin rather than cut the skin. Because there is no disruption in the integrity of the skin, it's suitable for all skin types. It's also much less painful, the healed results are much better, and the long-term healed results are much better as well. Also, because there is no cutting of the skin, pre-numbing is not needed, and while I do apply topical numbing during the application, the majority of clients don’t feel any pain, and many even fall asleep during the procedure.
I'm one of the only artists in the state of Florida who offers this advanced technique. I have many clients visit from out of state to have this style of brow applied.
Clients with an unflattering brow shape, or sparce brows can opt for Nano Hairstroke to provide a new or more complimentary brow shape while seamlessly blending with any existing natural hairs.
Many clients don’t have any natural brow hair due to age, chemotherapy treatments, alopecia, thyroid disease, chemotherapy treatments, and other medical conditions. Nano Hairstroke provides a multi-dimensional realistic brow look against the flat surface of the skin.
Many men wish to have a brow re-shape, symmetry correction, or a thicker looking brow. Nano Brows provides them the opportunity to change their natural brows without looking like they're wearing makeup.
This style of brow is just like it sounds, it’s the traditional “permanent makeup” look that mimics the appearance of brows filled in with powder makeup. The goal for this technique is look like the brows are filled in with makeup without looking like “a tattoo”. Application for this technique is important as color, shape, thickness, and saturation of the pigment all play a vital role in making the brows appear soft and “natural”.
This style is created using a tattoo machine with a technique that implants the pigment in an evenly pixelated and consistent pattern. Often this style is combined with an "ombré" effect, with the front of the brow being lighter and softer, and the tail of the brow being darker, to create a more natural looking eyebrow.
Clients who have brow hair, but would like a more enhanced arch, more complimentary shape and/or thickness may opt for Powder Brows. Often brow maintenance (plucking, waxing, or shaving) is required to remove natural hairs outside of the treatment area to maintain the new brow shape.
For clients who wear makeup daily, Powder Brows is a great option to provide the look of soft powder makeup, all while improving shape of the natural brow, and providing symmetry and balance.
On-fleek brows typically have a sharp outline creating a well-defined and symmetrical brow shape. This bold look is excellent for those who want their brows to make a statement!
